Case Study: Library of Congress

In 2005, the Library of Congress and the National Endowment for the Humanities teamed up to form the National Digital Newspaper Program (NDNP). This program funds and administers the digitization of millions of microfilmed newspaper pages across the United States. For more detail about the program, see www.loc.gov/ndnp.

iArchives was chosen by the Library of Congress to provide digitization services for the 2006-2008, 2008-2010, and 2009-2011 NDNP award cycles as well as a number of non-NDNP digitization projects.

Additionally, iArchives has been selected as the vendor of choice by the majority of state NDNP project awards to date. These include work at the Library of Congress, New York Public Library, University of Florida, University of Utah, University of Kentucky, University of North Texas, University of Nebraska, Arizona State Library Archives and Public Records, Ohio Historical Society, State Historical Society of Missouri, University of Hawaii, Pennsylvania State University, University of Oregon, Oklahoma Historical Society, Kansas State Historical Society, University of Illinois, University of New Mexico, University of Tennessee and University of Vermont.

The Library of Congress hosts the repository for these state newspaper collections which may be found at the Chronicling America Website.
